This month was about getting contractors through onboarding with fewer roadblocks, giving you more control over settlements, and making sure every document has an expiration date you can count on. Here's everything that shipped in October.
Temporary Driver's Licenses Are Now Accepted
Plenty of contractors show up with a temporary license while they wait for their physical card, and until now that stopped them at the Driver's License step. Contractors can now choose between a standard physical card or temporary proof, either paper or electronic. The temporary path asks for an upload of the license plus a live selfie, and our team reviews it before the step is approved.
This works in both onboarding and recollection and is available on every account automatically. The standard physical card flow hasn't changed.
More Flexible Settlements
Itemized settlement cash requirements. Your settlement cash requirements can now be broken down by contractor or by market instead of a single lump sum. Each contractor is shown as Active, Deactivated or Not Onboarded, with a summary table at the top to make reconciliation quicker. Nothing changes unless you ask to switch, so reach out to your Account Manager to turn it on.
Fewer Failed Settlements
A reminder to activate debit cards. Banks reject settlements to debit cards that haven't been activated or used yet. Contractors who choose Debit Card during onboarding, recollection or in the Contractor Portal now see a reminder to activate their card first, so their first settlement doesn't bounce.
Holiday timing notices. Contractors will now see a banner when a bank holiday shifts settlement timing. The first one starts November 2 for Veterans Day: contractors paid by ACH will see that Tuesday, November 10 settlements arrive Thursday, November 12, since banks are closed on the 11th. Contractors paid by debit card are told they aren't affected. We plan to do the same for upcoming holidays.
Expiration Dates You Can Count On
A document without an expiration date never gets flagged for renewal, so this month we closed those gaps.
Expiration dates required at approval. Driver's licenses always need an expiration date to be approved. Vehicle registration, vehicle insurance, and insurance contractors upload themselves now require one by default too. Past dates are never accepted. These rules apply to approvals going forward.
Certification uploads now expire. When you approve a certificate a contractor uploaded manually, you'll enter an expiration date within the next 12 months. It shows in the Expires In column as soon as you save. Certificates approved before this change aren't affected.
Certification steps name their course. Each certification step now shows which course it covers, like HIPAA or Bloodborne Pathogens, so contractors know exactly what they're completing.
Medical Card on the DOT Step Is Now Configurable
The DOT step used to always require a Medical Card. It can now be required, optional or hidden, with required staying the default. When it's hidden, contractors complete the step with just their DOT number. If the setting changes, contractors who are still onboarding will be asked to revisit that step. Reach out to your Account Manager to adjust it.
Smarter Invite Resends
Sending extra invites on top of our automatic reminders can lead contractors to opt out of messages altogether. The button now reads "Resend Invite" or "Resend Recollection" depending on where the contractor is, and sends the matching message. Each press asks you to confirm and names the contractor. Resends are limited to once an hour and twice in 24 hours per contractor.
A Clearer View in Your Dashboard
See who invited each contractor. The Contractor Created entry in a contractor's Activities tab now shows who invited them and how: by email invite, invite link or CSV upload. This applies to newly created contractors; existing records aren't changed.
Only the actions you can use. Actions like activating or deactivating a contractor are now hidden if your role doesn't have permission for them, instead of appearing and then failing.
Connect GigSafe to Your TMS
GigSafe now connects with more of the transportation management systems (TMS) you already use. Contractors you onboard and keep compliant in GigSafe sync into your TMS, so your team doesn't have to re-enter driver details in two places.
Available today:
CXT. If you dispatch through CXT, you can connect it to GigSafe now.
Cartwheel. If you dispatch through Cartwheel, you can connect it to GigSafe now, and contractors sync automatically once they're onboarded.
More on the way. We're building integrations with additional TMS platforms, with several in development now.
Don't see your TMS? Tell your Account Manager which system you use and we'll look at whether we can integrate with it. If you already use CXT or Cartwheel, your Account Manager can help you get connected.
For API Integrators
Read your fee rules through the API. A new read-only endpoint returns your configured fees and deductions: flat amounts, percentage rates, caps, schedule, payout methods and which contractor types each rule applies to. Your TMS and other integrations can now sync GigSafe's fee rules automatically instead of copying them by hand.
Tax ID details in Get Contractor. The Get Contractor endpoint now returns the last 4 digits of a contractor's SSN and their full EIN. The full SSN is never returned.
The documented sandbox URL works. sandbox.api.gigsafe.com now works exactly as written in our API docs.
Questions about these updates?
Reach out to your Account Manager. We're happy to walk through anything above in more detail.
See you next month with more updates!
